Milan, 23 February. (LaPresse) – “Italy made a good impression and promoted our country thanks to these widespread Games. Everyone was committed: local authorities, municipalities, regions, torchbearers and volunteers. Transport and security worked well, and praise also goes to all the military and police services, with security present but not visible, unlike many other Olympic events. And then there were the Olympic villages and the food: we received compliments from everyone.” Speaking this morning on Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1, CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio gave a final assessment of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. And what was needed to emphasise this excellent organisation. “The results. That’s why yesterday I started with 30 cum laude. With these results, we have made Italy great. The two federal presidents, Andrea Gios and Flavio Roda, were excellent, as were the military sports groups from which our athletes come. The support provided by CONI’s Olympic preparation team and the Institute of Sports Medicine and Science was truly exceptional, as was the medical support for all our teams and athletes. With all these ingredients and financial support from the government, we managed to do something that will go down in history. We didn’t work to break records, but to make a good impression and arrive on time for the event,” he added.
