Iran, von der Leyen: ‘All parties must respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and observe the ceasefire’

Brussels, 13 April (LaPresse) – “We are concerned that the ongoing attacks on Lebanon threaten to derail the entire process. We are mobilising the EU’s humanitarian aid stocks to provide immediate assistance to the Lebanese people, but no amount of aid, however substantial, can replace the security of a lasting peace. A key lesson from recent weeks is that security is indivisible. There can be no stability in the Middle East or the Gulf whilst Lebanon is in flames. We therefore call on all parties to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and to implement a complete cessation of hostilities. And as we observe the current fragile ceasefire, and despite the uncertainty, I would like us to draw lessons together.” This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at a press briefing at the Berlaymont Building, following the College of Commissioners’ meeting on the crisis in the Middle East.
