Rome, Apr 21 (LaPresse) – The Court of Cassation has ordered a new appeal trial to assess the aggravating circumstance of premeditation in the femicide of lawyer Martina Scialdone, who was shot dead by her ex-partner Costantino Bonaiuti on January 13, 2023, in Rome, outside a restaurant in Via Amelia in the Tuscolano area. The judges upheld the appeal filed by the public prosecutor’s office at the Rome Court of Appeal, which had excluded premeditation. At first instance, the defendant had been sentenced to life imprisonment, while on appeal the sentence was reduced to 24 years and 8 months. “It is an important result,” lawyer Licia D’Amico of the association Insieme per Marianna, a civil party in the trial, told LaPresse, adding that “we are confident about the outcome of the new appeal trial.”
