Fuel, Codacons: “Diesel on the motorway could reach 2.50 euros per liter”

Rome, September 17 (LaPresse) – “The excise tax measure approved yesterday by the Council of Ministers will bring the price of diesel fuel to nearly 2.50 euros at self-service stations on the motorway starting September 26,” Codacons stated, commenting on the new price increases on the network. “Regardless of the trend in diesel prices at the pump in the coming days, the decision to reduce the tax discount from 17 to 12.2 euro cents will result in an increase in the cost of a full tank of diesel fuel from September 18 to 25, amounting to +2.40 euros, rising to +5.45 euros from September 26 to October 5, considering that during that period the reduction will drop to just 6.1 euro cents,” Codacons calculates. “Based on the recent upward trend in fuel prices, and if this trend continues in the coming days, the reduction in the discount will cause a liter of diesel on the highway to exceed the psychological threshold of 2.50 euros per liter starting September 26th. The consequences of the government’s decision to limit the excise duty discount will be extremely severe: the increased spending burden for families will lead to a loss of purchasing power that will impact consumption, with damage to the entire national economy,” concludes Codacons.
