USA: artist Peter Max dies at 88

New York (United States), Sept. 17 (LaPresse) – Peter Max, an artist known for his colorful and psychedelic ‘pop art,’ which expressed the optimism of the “flower power” movement of the 1960s and appeared on all kinds of media, from postage stamps to a cruise ship, has died at the age of 88. His son announced that the artist died last Monday. The cause of death was not disclosed, but Max suffered from advanced dementia. Max began his career in graphic design in the 1960s; his swirling, colorful and immediately recognizable drawings perfectly embodied the “flower power” aesthetic of that era. His work remained well-known and successful well into the early 21st century. Max was the official artist for the Olympics, the Super Bowl and other events; the subjects of his portraits included figures ranging from U.S. presidents to Taylor Swift.
