Rome, 10 April (LaPresse) – “It is 35 years since the tragedy involving the Moby Prince ferry. The Republic stands in solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives, with the city of Livorno, which will never be able to forget the tragedy it experienced, and with the many who, over time, have worked to reconstruct the facts and establish responsibility, succeeding in clarifying aspects that had long remained obscure, even if, unfortunately, questions remain that have not received exhaustive answers. One hundred and forty deaths: the unbearable toll of the most serious accident in our civil shipping history. A tragedy that could and should have been avoided, and which was, moreover, followed by disorganisation and delays in the management of the rescue operation.” So said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. “From the remembrance and commemoration we undertake today, there must be a renewed commitment to ensure that such events cannot be repeated in the future, by focusing attention on prevention regulations and safety standards at sea. A commitment on the part of the institutions and the entire community,” concluded the Head of State.
