Athletics: Jacobs at the Golden Gala – set for a showdown with Lyles

Rome, 24 April (LaPresse) – The legend of Italian athletics is returning to Rome. It is time for another major announcement for the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea: the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in the 100m and 4x100m relay, Marcell Jacobs, will officially be among the stars of the Italian leg of the Wanda Diamond League, scheduled for the evening of Thursday 4 June. The sprinter who has made history for Italian sport is ready to thrill the crowd at the Stadio Olimpico on the 100-metre straight in front of the Monte Mario stand. A spectacular showdown awaits him with the Olympic 100m champion and four-time world 200m gold medallist Noah Lyles, in a race that will keep spectators at the meeting and viewers in 164 countries around the world on the edge of their seats. The full line-up for the 100m, which promises further major surprises, will be revealed in the coming weeks. For Jacobs (Fiamme Oro), currently at his training base in Florida with his sights set on the European Championships in Birmingham to seek a third consecutive continental gold in the 100m, this marks his return to the Diamond League 643 days after his last appearance, at the Golden Gala itself, just a few weeks after finishing fifth at the Paris Olympics with a remarkable 9.85.
