Migrants: AfD leader Weidel says Berlin should not compensate Italy but stop NGOs

Frankfurt (Germany), Aug. 19 (LaPresse) – “More than half of the migrants who reached Italy on private ships were brought ashore by German NGOs.” AfD co-leader Alice Weidel wrote this on X, criticizing the role of German nongovernmental organizations in rescue operations in the Mediterranean. “Germany should not compensate Italy, but should put an end to the activities of NGOs that act as human smugglers, instead of providing them with financial support,” Weidel added in her message.
