Ukraine: drone crashes in Romania near the border during the night

Milan, 20 August (LaPresse) – A drone entered Romanian airspace, crashing in Tulcea County, in an uninhabited area. This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defence, which explained that “at 2.23 am (1.23 am in Italy), the Ministry of National Defence’s radar surveillance system detected a group of aerial targets near the border with Ukraine”. Two Spanish F-18s took off to monitor the situation and a Romanian IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter took off on an aerial reconnaissance mission. “At 3.21, a drone intruded into national airspace, approximately 13 kilometres east of the city of Galati”, explained the Romanian Ministry, adding that “at 03.24, the crew of the IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter reported that the target had crashed approximately 4 kilometres north-east of the village of Grindu, in Tulcea County, in an uninhabited area. The aircraft’s impact with the ground was followed by a fire which extinguished itself. No casualties or material damage have been reported”. The ministry added that “a team of military personnel was sent to the crash site to secure the area”.
