Turin, Aug. 22 (LaPresse) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will hold a press conference on Monday, after promising to take “unprecedented” measures against Iran. The press conference is scheduled for 8 p.m. Italian time. CNN reports that the Trump administration has indicated that a new round of sanctions against Iran is imminent, with the aim of squeezing Tehran’s remaining sources of revenue. The decision comes after President Donald Trump threatened an “economic D-Day” against Iran, promising to impose “enormous economic consequences” on countries that continue to do business with Tehran. Tehran, for its part, reacted strongly to Trump’s statements. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described Trump’s threat on Friday as “a recipe for a disastrous return to full-scale classic colonialism.”
