Middle East, Xi: “China will do its part, everyone must work for peace”

New Delhi (India), Sept. 12 (LaPresse) – “China is ready, together with the BRICS member countries, to play its role in promoting peace and tranquility in the Middle East and Gulf region.” Chinese President Xi Jinping said this while speaking at the first session of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi. Xi stressed that “the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf continues to evolve in a complex manner.” The war, he added, “has caused serious losses to the populations of the countries in the region and is not in the common interest of the international community.” The Chinese president then referred to the four proposals he put forward to “maintain and promote peace and stability in the Middle East,” with the aim of “easing tensions, stopping the fighting and promoting peace.” “The parties concerned must maintain the direction of a political solution and work to achieve a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.” Xi then urged BRICS countries to stand on the “right side of history” and play a more active role in restoring peace and stability. Xi said that BRICS countries should oppose violations of national sovereignty and interference in the internal affairs of other countries, taking a leading role in maintaining peace and stability.
