Football: Roman-style chants in the stands, 16 stadium bans for AS Roma supporters

Rome, 16 September (LaPresse) – The Rome Police Commissioner has imposed 16 stadium bans, barring access to sports grounds for as many Giallorossi supporters identified during the Roma v Atalanta match for having, as a group, performed the Roman salute in the south stand, whilst some members of the same group were wearing T-shirts bearing the slogan ‘uber alles’, a well-known Nazi reference. The administrative measures, imposed on individuals aged between 19 and 42, following an investigation by the Anti-Crime Division, are valid for between one and five years and will apply throughout Italy, extending the ban to matches involving AS Roma that take place abroad. The same restrictions will also apply to matches involving the Italian national football team. For four Giallorossi supporters who are members of the group, the ban has been made more stringent by requirements obliging them to report to police stations before, during and after AS Roma football matches.
