AVS: Fabio Mussi, former minister and long-standing figure of the left, has died aged 78

Rome, 3 Sept. (LaPresse) – Fabio Mussi passed away last night at Sant’Eugenio Hospital in Rome. AVS announced this in a statement. The former minister in the Prodi government, a long-standing figure on the left and currently a leading member of Sinistra Italiana (Avs), was born in Piombino (Livorno) on 22 January 1948. At a very young age, he joined the Central Committee of the Italian Communist Party (PCI), for which he later served as a member of parliament from 1992 to 2008 (PDS, DS). He was leader of the PDS-Ulivo parliamentary group in 1996 and then, in 2001, Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies. He served as deputy editor of *Rinascita* and later as co-editor of *L’Unità*. He did not join the PD, and played a part in the formation first of SEL and then of Sinistra Italiana. Details on how to pay one’s last respects will be announced by the family in the coming hours.
