Centre-left, Franceschini: “If we have divisive primaries, we deserve to lose”

Reggio Emilia, 11 Sept. (LaPresse) – “To avoid holding primaries, the centre-left leaders would have to get together in a room and say, ‘You do it’ – which is very difficult for both us and the Five Star Movement – or ‘He’ll do it’, which I can’t see happening. If that doesn’t happen, the best solution is primaries. Perhaps we’ve set such a bad example that people imagine them as divisive. But in fact, they’re the most democratic way. Let’s hold the primaries on Sunday and on Monday let’s have a huge public celebration. If, on the other hand, they turn out to be divisive, we deserve to lose.” So said Dario Franceschini, speaking at the Festa dell’Unità in Reggio Emilia.
