F1, Antonelli: ‘Angry and disappointed, but I was quick today and could have won’

Turin, 5 July (LaPresse) – “Obviously I’m disappointed and angry, but the important thing is that we were quick today anyway and I had a very good chance of winning. I was making up ground very quickly on the hard tyres; it was a shame not even to have had the chance to give it a go.” So said Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli to Sky Sport, having finished outside the points due to a technical problem with his car in the closing stages of the race, whilst he was chasing Charles Leclerc for first place. “The problem seems to have been with the wheel shield; it broke instantly. I was taking the kerbs in exactly the same way on every lap,” added the championship leader. “I came out of Turn 9 and felt something break instantly. The shame is that we had to make two pit stops. “During the first one, we changed the wing but the problem remained; during the second, they removed the broken part and the car was more or less drivable. It’s a shame because I could have finished sixth or seventh.”
