Ukraine, Putin to Trump: “Willing to declare a truce for May 9”

Milan, April 29 (LaPresse) – Russian President Vladimir Putin informed US President Donald Trump of his willingness to declare a ceasefire during the Victory Day celebrations on May 9. This was announced by the Russian president’s adviser, Yuri Ushakov. The announcement came after a phone call between Putin and Trump, which according to Ushakov lasted over an hour and a half. Ushakov stated that Trump “positively the Easter truce recently announced by Russia”. “In this regard, Vladimir Putin informed his American counterpart of his willingness to declare a ceasefire during the Victory Day celebrations,” the adviser continued. “Trump actively supported this initiative, stressing that the holiday commemorates our common victory over Nazism in the Second World War,” Ushakov specified. “The presidents paid particular attention to the situation around Iran and in the Persian Gulf. Vladimir Putin believes that Donald Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran was correct, which should open the door to negotiations and, in general, help stabilise the situation,” Ushakov then said, adding that “Trump outlined his assessment of the results of the concluded phase of the military confrontation, as well as his views on the difficult situation currently faced by Iran and its leadership”. Ushakov then added: “The Russian president drew attention to the inevitable and very serious consequences not only for Iran and its neighbours, but for the entire international community, should the United States and Israel resort to force again. And, of course, a ground operation on Iranian territory appears entirely unacceptable and dangerous.”
