EU: MEPs visit Greenland – focus on the Arctic and relations with the US

Turin, 21 Aug. (LaPresse) – A delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs will visit Denmark and Greenland from 24 to 28 August. On Monday, in Copenhagen, MEPs will meet Jens Heinrich, head of the Greenlandic Representation in Denmark, and representatives of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss geopolitics in the Arctic. From Tuesday to Friday, MEPs will be in Greenland to gain a deeper understanding of constitutional developments and self-government in the autonomous territory. They will meet the President of the Inatsisartut, Greenland’s Parliament, Kim Kielsen, and representatives of the Naalakkersuisut, the Greenlandic government. During the visit, MEPs will also meet with academics from Ilisimatusarfik, the University of Greenland, and representatives of the Inuit Circumpolar Council. Transatlantic relations will be the focus of the meeting with representatives of the US Mission to the Kingdom of Denmark in Greenland. The delegation comprises Sven Simon (EPP, Germany), Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO) and head of the delegation; Loránt Vincze (EPP, Romania), Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, Spain), Daniel Freund (Greens/EFA, Germany) and Tobiasz Bochenski (ECR, Poland).
