Milano, Aug. 21 (LaPresse) – The US Navy is considering changing the name of an aircraft carrier under construction, originally intended to honor an African American sailor celebrated for his heroism during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Three sources familiar with internal discussions told CNN. During President Donald Trump’s first term, the Navy had announced that the Ford-class aircraft carrier would be named USS Doris Miller, in honor of a sailor who helped defend US forces during the Japanese attack. It is unclear what name the Navy intends to give the aircraft carrier, although two of the sources said there had been internal discussions about the possibility of naming it after Trump. It would be an unprecedented move – CNN points out – to name an aircraft carrier after a sitting president.
